El All I Oli

El All I Oli (literally garlic and oil in Catalan) is a family run restaurant in Sant Andreu dating back thirty years. Taking its name from two of the most important ingredients in Catalan cooking, which together form the famous garlic sauce , the restaurant serves traditional fare, such as butifarra (Catalan sausages), peus de porc (pig’s trotters) and sopa de galets (traditional soup usually eaten at Christmas). At All I Oil they have three things they value over everything else; good food, good atmosphere and good service. It’s a simple an effective motto, like the cooking, simple, traditional Catalan cuisine just like l’avia used to make.

Bar Versalles

Gran de Sant Andreu, 255

In the heart of the old town of Sant Andreu you will find Bar Versalles, a bar with almost as much history as the neighbourhood itself. The first record of the bar was in 1915 when it was known as Petit Versailles and was extremely successful due to its central location and also being placed next to the tram stop for Sant Andreu. The café changed hands to the Heredero family and during the Civil War became a place of shelter for the people of the neighbourhood during the bombing of Barcelona. After Franco’s victory the bar was forced to make the name more ‘Spanish’ and so it was changed to Versalles. During the dictatorship the bar maintained a mixture of clients where the police would rub shoulders with trade unionists normally without any trouble. During the latter 20th Century the clientele opened up and men and women of all ages came to enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of Bar Versalles. In 2013 they celebrated their 85th anniversary and continue to be the centre of life in Sant Andreu. Bar Versalles isn’t just a bar, it’s an institution.   

 

Lagar

Lagar might have only opened in 2007 but the team definitely knows about traditional Catalan cuisine. Lagar is the name for the winery where they crushed the grapes for wine or the apples if you’re more of a cider drinker. The restaurant itself is elegantly decorated and in keeping with the name aims to offer traditional Mediterranean food with its own twist. Lagar offers you the choice of each dish in full or half portions, perfect if you want to try everything on their well-rounded menu. Our suggestions? Why not try the morcilla de Burgos(Burgos black pudding) which comes accompanied by an apple purée, or the tuna with orange marmalade, or perhaps the strawberry gazpacho with prawns? Lagar may be a new kid on the block but it our opinion it’s definitely worth a visit.

Torre Rosa

Torre Rosa is a cocktail bar with history. Located inside a 19th Century mansion, Torre Rosa (literally the pink tower and the colour of the building) offers something different in the world of bars in Barcelona. With four different areas and ambiences to relax with your cocktail, Torre Rosa gives its clients a complete experience. Two exterior spaces, one a covered lounge area with heaters to enjoy Barcelona nights in summer and in winter, and the other, a beautiful garden in the grounds of this magnificent turn of the century house, are combined with two indoor bars, one in the original entrance to the house and the other, a more intimate, private space in what was the main living floor of the mansion. Add to the beautiful and original setting a cocktail and Gin and Tonic menu which mixes classic cocktails with the latest fashion and you have the perfect place to spend those balmy Barcelona nights.
