Quimet & Quimet
C/del Poeta Cabanyes, 25
Regularly named one of the best bodegas in Barcelona, Quimet & Quimet have a loyal fan base as well as welcoming those visiting the city wanting to experience a traditional bar. Opened in 1913 as a wine shop selling the family produced wine in a small village near Montserrat, it slowly started to increase its offerings to include small dishes and then more wines and spirits until we reach the Quimet i Quimet of the 21st Century. Presided over by the 4th generation Quim, this Poble Sec bodega has a wide and varied offering of wines, cavas, spirits and even makes its own beer. However, for us it is the food that really makes Quimet i Quimet such a special place. A traditional menu at first glance, cheeses, croquetas, mondatidos (like small sandwiches) and cured meats a-plenty, but look closer and you find beautifully balanced combinations with fantastic ingredients (sea urchin and fresh anchovy sandwich anyone?) When you go (and I say when because you really shouldn’t miss out) try the smoked salmon, greek yohurt and truffled honey montadito. So good I ordered it twice.
